59 Cómo decir lo que no se tiene

     Como ya hemos visto, hay dos maneras de preguntar qué tiene la gente:
INGLÉS BRITÁNICO Have you got the time, please?
NORTEAMERICANO Do you have the time, please?
¿Tienes hora por favor?

INGLÉS BRITÁNICO Has the girl got new shoes?
NORTEAMERICANO Does the girl  have new shoes?
¿Tiene la niña zapatos nuevos?

  También hay dos maneras de decir qué es lo que la gente no tiene. Para construir la forma negativa se utiliza not, que generalmente se contrae uniéndose al verbo auxiliar do o al verbo have formando una sola palabra:
haven´t = have not          don´t  =  do not
hasn´t =  has not             doesn´t  =  does not
 AFIRMATIVA                     NEGATIVA
They´ve got a boat   They haven´t got a boat
Tienen un barco.                         No tienen un barco
He´s got a job              He hasn´t got a job
(Él) tiene un empleo             (Él) no tiene un empleo
They have a problem Tienen un problema.
They don´t have a problem No tienen un problema.
She has the key  Ella) tiene la llave.
She doesn´t have the key (Ella) no tiene la llave.
   Recuerde que en inglés británico se utilizan fundamentalmente las expresiones con got, mientras que en inglés norteamericano normalmente no se utiliza got. En las siguientes parejas de frases ambas aseveraciones significan lo mismo:
  INGLÉS BRITÁNICO              NORTEAMERICANO
We haven´t got any food  We don´t have any food
No tenemos nada de comida.

He hasn´t got a map    He doesn´t have a map
(Él) no tiene un mapa.
Otros ejemplos, utilizando but para unir dos frases (una afirmativa y otra negativa):
I´ve got a cigarette, but I haven´t got a match
Tengo un cigarillo, pero no tengo una cerilla.
The car has a radio, but it doesn´t have a windscreen
El coche tiene radio, pero no tiene parabrisas

        Ejemplos con contracciones:
I haven´t got a radio        I don´t have a radio
No tengo una radio 
She hasn´t got a car  She doesn´t have a car
Ella) no tiene un coche.
They haven´t got a dog   They don´t have a dog
No tienen un perro.
