173 Cómo preguntar y expresar qué le pasa a algo o a alguien

   Fíjese en la expresión que se utiliza para preguntar qué le pasa a alguien cuando tiene mal aspecto:
What´s the matter, Jane?  ¿Qué te pasa, Jane?
I feel ill  Me siento enferma.
    También se utiliza como una pregunta general en muchos contextos sobre el estado o la condición
en que se encuentra alguien o algo porque siempre presupone que algo va mal:
What´s the matter, sir?  ¿Qué le pasa, señor?
I think l´ve lost my wallet!   ¡Creo que he perdido mi billetera!
    Para preguntar lo que les pasa a terceras personas se utiliza la palabra with:
What´s the matter with John?   ¿Qué le pasa a John?
I think he´s bored   Creo que está aburrido.
    También se utiliza with para preguntar qué pasa a las cosas:
What´s the matter with your car?  ¿Qué le pasa a tu coche?
Nothing´s the matter with it. It´s cold   No le pasa nada está frío.

   También se puede preguntar si algien está enfermo usando preguntas directas sobre su estado de salud:
    be + ill
Are you ill?  ¿Estás enfermo?    
Yes, I am. I´ve got a terrible cold  Sí, lo estoy. Tengo un resfriado terrible.
    Recuerde que se utiliza el verbo look seguido por un adjetivo con el sentido de “parecer” o “tener aspecto de”.
Para responder, se puede utilizar el verbo feel (sentir) con la misma construcción. Observe que look se utiliza
tanto para referirse al buen aspecto como al mal aspecto:
    look/feel + adjetivo
You look ill, Pat. What´s the matter?   Pareces enfermo, Pat ¿Qué te pasa?
I feel ill  Me siento enfermo.
And you look very tired  Y pareces muy cansado.  
What´s the matter with John?   ¿Qué le pasa a John?   
I don’t´ know. He looks very tired   No sé. Parece muy cansado.  
And he feels awful too  Y se siente fatal también.

    En el siguientes diálogo se utiliza construcciones del “Present Simple” y “Past Simple” en negativa para referirse
al especto que tiene alguien. La forma negativa se construye con el verbo auxiliar do/did:
You don´t look very well today, Jane  No tienes muy buen aspecto hoy, Jane.
And I didn´t look well yesterday   Y no tenía buen aspecto ayer.
Oh, why not?  ¡Oh! ¿Por qué no?
I felt tired and I had headache   Me sentía cansada y tenía dolor de cabeza.
