En inglés los tres primeros números ordinales son irregulares. A partir del cuarto se forman añadiendo la terminación –th al número cardinal, aunque hasta el duodécimo a veces hay cambios ortográficos antes de añadir la terminación. Observe que las abreviaturas utilizan las dos últimas letras de la palabra completa:
